Packed house celebrates launch of BMRenew

It was a clear day on Saturday 10 August, just perfect for generating solar power, when around 100 local mountains people gathered in Lawson to hear BMRenew’s plans for community-owned renewable energy in the mountains.

Chaired by former Federal Court judge and past president of the Australian Conservation Foundation, Murray Wilcox, the meeting was addressed by BMRenew members sharing their work on projects like the residential Solar Group Buy and the flagship Commercial Solar PV project, both aiming to do more to harness the sun in the mountains.

Members also spent time on the importance of taking a community based approach to producing energy, rather than relying on governments or multi-national corporations to power our towns.

All our local politicians were invited and we were delighted to have the then-Mayor Daniel Myles, many other local councillors and Federal Greens candidate Danielle Wheeler in attendance.

A special thanks to Greg North for his entertaining poetry that produced plenty of laughter.

With over 40 attendees registering interest in joining the Co-op or participating in a Solar Group Buy program, BMRenew members counted the launch as a great success.
